DoorDash and Costco teamed up to launch home delivery services, allowing Kiwis to gain access to Costco’s broad selection of groceries, household items, and bulk purchasing options without Costco membership.
However, non-members will face higher prices for the same items compared to members.
New Zealand residents can now have Costco products delivered via DoorDash, offering same-day delivery or advance scheduling options. Delivery starts at $2.99 for orders within 10km, with extra charges applied for distances beyond 10km and larger basket sizes.
DoorDash’s DashPass subscribers will have their deliveries without a fee on eligible orders. The DashPass costs $9.99 per month.
“We’re always looking for ways to make everyday shopping easier, and our partnership with Costco means Aucklanders can now get incredible value and quality delivered straight to their doorstep,” DoorDash New Zealand general manager Bradley Thomas said.
Meanwhile, Costco New Zealand’s country manager Chris Tingman emphasised members’ appreciation for the affordability and ease of bulk shopping.
“This partnership gives members greater access to Costco’s quality products and value, knowing that busy lifestyles call for more convenient ways to tackle the weekly shop.”
As part of the launch, DoorDash is offering existing customers a $35 discount on their first Costco order when they spend $150 or more.
Just recently, Costco announced its financial results for fiscal year 2024, reporting total sales revenue of $361.5 million, reflecting a 6% increase from the $341 million achieved in 2023. The company also posted a pre-tax net profit of $833,000, which reflects an improvement from its $20.5 million pre-tax net loss in the previous year.
However, the New Zealand branch reported a comprehensive loss of $929,000 after accounting for $1.76 million in income tax costs.
The branch also faced a $9.32 million tax obligation resulting from legislative changes eliminating commercial building depreciation tax benefits.
