The Child Cancer Foundation has announced the appointment of Colin Mansbridge, Chief Executive Officer of the Crusaders rugby team, to its Board of Directors.

The decision was formalised during the foundation’s Annual General Meeting held in mid-November 2024. This appointment brings together Mansbridge’s professional expertise and his personal commitment to supporting children with cancer and their families.

A Passionate Advocate for Children’s Health

Mansbridge, leader of the Crusaders since 2018, has consistently supported charitable initiatives, notably through the team’s work with the Child Cancer Foundation. His recent decision to deepen his involvement reflects a desire to make a more personal contribution to causes close to him.

“I believe in serving the Crusaders and the causes they crusade for, including children with cancer and their families,” Mansbridge said. “I am absolutely privileged to find myself serving the Child Cancer Foundation on the Board and look forward to contributing in a meaningful way.”

Mansbridge’s professional background spans over three decades in banking and finance, with executive roles across New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and Australia. This extensive experience will be an asset to the foundation as it continues its mission to support children with cancer and their whānau.

A Warm Welcome from the Foundation

Monica Briggs, CEO of the Child Cancer Foundation, expressed her enthusiasm about Mansbridge’s appointment. “Of course we were delighted. Colin will be an incredible asset to our Board. We appreciate his extensive background in finance and management, and the fact that he’s truly passionate about easing the impact childhood cancer has on Kiwi children and their whānau,” she said.

Briggs emphasised the importance of strong leadership in ensuring the foundation remains financially robust and strategically effective. Mansbridge’s appointment signals a renewed commitment to these priorities.

Crusaders’ Legacy of Community Engagement

The Crusaders rugby team has deepened its involvement in community initiatives under Mansbridge’s leadership. The team’s longstanding partnership with the Child Cancer Foundation has included numerous fundraising events aimed at providing vital support for affected families.

His role on the Board will involve guiding strategic efforts to enhance the foundation’s impact, from financial stewardship to operational planning. The foundation is poised to explore new opportunities for collaboration and outreach with Mansbridge’s leadership.

Strengthening Leadership for a Greater Cause

The addition of Mansbridge to the Board exemplifies the growing trend of corporate leaders bringing their expertise to nonprofit organisations.

The next chapter for the foundation begins with Mansbridge’s vision, and his efforts will likely influence upcoming initiatives and collaborations, reaffirming the importance of community leadership in driving meaningful change.
