The New Zealand Skills and Education Group (NZSEG) has announced a new partnership with the Royal New Zealand Navy, enabling Navy Electronic Engineers to undertake the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Electronics Engineering) Level 6 at NZSE College.

The agreement was recently signed at NZSE College’s Auckland City campus, marking a significant step in providing professional qualifications to Navy personnel.

Formalising a Strategic Collaboration

The signing ceremony brought together key representatives from both institutions, including NZSEG CEO Wendy Liao and Commander Dave Rogers, Naval Specialist Training at the Royal New Zealand Navy. Speaking on the partnership, Liao emphasised the importance of working alongside the Navy.

“It is an honour to partner with the vital service that is the Royal New Zealand Navy. I deeply admire the work the Navy does for this country, and it is with pleasure that I announce NZSE College’s contribution.”

This agreement strengthens the professional development opportunities available to Navy engineers, equipping them with essential skills in electronics engineering through a structured diploma programme.

The Role of the Navy in National and Regional Security

The Royal New Zealand Navy plays a crucial role in safeguarding New Zealand’s maritime interests, ensuring security along trade routes, and protecting ocean resources. The Navy’s mission extends beyond national borders, contributing to stability in the Pacific and responding to humanitarian crises.

“Responding to disasters and crises, the Navy gets people, supplies, and expertise to where it’s needed most,” said NZSEG Founder and Managing Director Brijesh Sethi.“This partnership is close to my heart. We will ensure high-value delivery to our Navy learners.”

NZSEG is directly supporting the Navy’s operational effectiveness by offering this diploma, ensuring that personnel have access to formal qualifications that enhance their technical expertise.

Empowering Navy Engineers Through Education

Electronic Engineers are integral to the Navy’s success, responsible for maintaining and managing complex shipboard systems essential for mission readiness. Navy personnel can “earn while they learn,” gaining practical experience while travelling and working in diverse environments through this programme.

Commander Dave Rogers highlighted the significance of offering professional qualifications to Navy engineers. “It’s really important to the Navy to offer meaningful qualifications to our people — it means we have professional engineers out at sea, serving New Zealand. I can’t overstate the importance of this partnership with NZSEG.”

A Hands-On Learning Experience

The New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Electronics Engineering) Level 6 programme at NZSE College provides comprehensive training in the design, development, and maintenance of electronic circuitry. A key component of the course is hands-on practical training in NZSE College’s fully-equipped laboratory. Students will work with professional-grade equipment, simulating real-world engineering challenges.

This approach ensures that graduates are well-prepared to apply their knowledge in both military and civilian engineering environments.

Strengthening Industry and Defence Ties

NZSE College plays an important role in shaping the future of engineering professionals in New Zealand. This partnership further cements its relationship with the Defence Force, reinforcing NZSEG’s commitment to industry-relevant, high-impact skills training.

Group Academic Director Dr Neel Pandey highlighted the broader implications of this collaboration stating,“Strengthening our relationship with the Royal New Zealand Navy not only enhances learning opportunities for their personnel, it also reinforces our position as a trusted provider of engineering education.”

A Commitment to the Future

NZSEG and the Royal New Zealand Navy look forward to seeing the positive impact of this initiative, with the potential for further training and education collaborations in the future.

This agreement is the beginning of what could be an expanding collaboration between NZSEG and the Royal New Zealand Navy, ensuring that Navy personnel have continued access to high-quality educational opportunities that align with their mission and career goals.
