Apple is holding off the development of its next-generation Vision Pro headset while prioritising the release of a more affordable version of the current device, a report says.
According to the report, this new, more affordable Vision headset could potentially be released before the end of 2025. The device would also reportedly retain the high-resolution displays that made the original Vision Pro enjoyable to use. However, it will lack some unspecified features. Previous discussions suggested Apple is considering prices ranging from $1,500 to $2,500 for this model compared to the Apple Vision Pro’s $3,500 price tag.
While the Apple Vision Pro is considered an impressive device, it also faces several issues. Apart from its high consumer price, users complain about its eye-controlled interface bugs and its weight, which some find too heavy for prolonged use.
While Apple has not formally released sales figures, consumer interest in the Vision Pro is said to have died down. Some analysts noted that the company updated its Vision Pro shipment expectations for 2024 down to 400,000 to 450,000 units compared to its initial expectation to sell as many as 800,000 Vision Pro devices.
The report also noted that the more affordable Vision headset is a key part of Apple’s plan to launch the device in two variants: Standard and Pro, similar to other Apple products like the iPhone.
