Apple is preparing for a leadership change as Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams, a 27-year veteran, plans to retire later this year.
Williams has been central to Apple’s success, overseeing the global supply chain, launching the Apple Watch, and leading health initiatives. He also managed the design team following Jony Ive’s departure in 2019.
Sabih Khan, Apple’s senior vice president of operations and a 30-year company veteran, will take over many of Williams’ COO duties later this month. Khan currently leads supply chain, procurement, manufacturing, and fulfilment. His deep operational expertise positions him well to maintain Apple’s complex manufacturing systems amid challenges like U.S. tariffs and shifting production demands.
“He’s helped to create one of the most respected global supply chains in the world; launched Apple Watch and overseen its development; architected Apple’s health strategy; and led our world-class team of designers with great wisdom, heart, and dedication,” CEO Tim Cook stated.
Williams said he looks forward to spending more time with family after nearly three decades at Apple.
This transition comes as Apple faces pressure to diversify its supply chain, including increasing iPhone production in India to meet U.S. market demands. The design team will report directly to Cook after Williams’ departure, streamlining leadership.
