Employees at NZ Post, the nation’s largest postal service, have once more been presented with the option of voluntary redundancy or reduced hours with a pay reduction, as the company seeks to remain “commercially sustainable.”

NZ Post chief people officer Monica Ayers said that the postal service is actively reviewing the structure and scale of its management and specialist roles to ensure they effectively support its operations.

As part of this ongoing review, the company has reopened expressions of interest for voluntary redundancies and adjustments to working hours within these functions.

“This process is currently underway, and we are not in a position to share any further details. Supporting our people continues to be our main focus,” Ayers said.

In September 2024, New Zealand Post initially offered its management and specialist functions team the option of voluntary redundancies or the chance to work a four-day week with a pay reduction.

Reports indicated that NZ Post wants to achieve a $35 to $40 million cutback during this financial year, impacting about 100 employees.

In March of the same year, New Zealand Post also announced that it would face significant job losses within its workforce due to a continued decline in mail volumes. Chief Executive David Walsh indicated that these job cuts would occur as the organisation transitions to integrating mail services into its parcel network, which they hope will establish a sustainable and cost-effective service within a single network.
