Marisco Family Vineyards, a third-generation winery from Marlborough, New Zealand, has announced its exclusive partnership with U.S. importer Quintessential to distribute its wines nationwide.
A Legacy of Winemaking Excellence
Founded by Brent Marris, Marisco Family Vineyards carries forward a legacy initiated by his father, John Marris, who planted Marlborough’s first commercial vines in 1973.
Brent’s daughter, Emma Marris, now continues the tradition as Marlborough’s first third-generation winemaker. The family’s deep-rooted history emphasises their commitment to quality and innovation in winemaking.
Sustainability at the Heart of Production
Marisco Vineyards emphasises sustainability through regenerative farming practices. The estate employs sheep for natural weed management and fertilisation, reducing the need for diesel and herbicides.
Native falcons have been reintroduced to support natural pest control, while local vegetation attracts beneficial insects to enhance biodiversity.
Circular practices are also prioritised in the winery, such as repurposing broken vineyard posts and grape marc, helping to minimise waste and promote environmental responsibility.
Diverse Wine Portfolio Showcasing Marlborough Terroir
Marisco’s portfolio includes several distinct wine labels:
- The Ned: Known for its lively style, this label captures the adventurous spirit of Marlborough’s Wither Hills range.
- Leefield Station: Celebrating the land’s biodiversity, this range reflects the family’s historic sheep and beef farm.
- Fernlands: Focused on purity and terroir expression, Fernlands highlights the essence of Marlborough’s diverse soils.
Signature varietals include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir, each earning strong recognition from critics. Notably, The Ned Sauvignon Blanc 2023 received 91 points from Wine Spectator.
Expansion into the U.S. Market
The partnership with Quintessential, effective 1 June 2024, forms part of Marisco’s U.S. growth strategy. Dennis Kreps, co-owner of Quintessential, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating:
“These wines embody the essence of Marlborough’s terroir, offering a true reflection of the region’s beauty and diversity.”
Marisco Family Vineyards continues to introduce its wines to the American market, the Marris family remains dedicated to sustainability, quality, and innovation. Marisco is positioned to become a prominent name in the global wine industry.
