Bahraini foodtech firm Calo has raised an additional $39 million in a Series B extension led by AlJazira Capital, building on a $25 million round closed in December 2024. The funds will support Calo’s expansion into the UK and other markets.

Calo offers ready-to-eat, personalised meal subscriptions designed around individual health goals, using AI technology. Last year, the company delivered over 10 million meals across the Middle East, reporting nearly 100% revenue growth.

The UK marks Calo’s first expansion beyond the Middle East and North Africa. The company acquired two British meal delivery services, Fresh Fitness Food and Detox Kitchen, integrating their operations while retaining existing staff. Calo now delivers daily in London and several times weekly in other UK areas, targeting a tenfold increase in UK revenue within three years.

Founder Ahmed Al Rawi said, “We started Calo to make healthy eating easy, personalised, and enjoyable.” Calo will face competition from established UK food delivery platforms like Just Eat and Deliveroo, as well as meal-kit providers such as Gusto and Wicked Kitchen.

Beyond the UK, Calo plans further global expansion, acquisitions, and growth of its physical retail presence. Its partnership with Saudi gym chain Armah Sports Company offers bundled meal and gym subscriptions.

Calo’s swift growth and innovative approach position it as a rising player in the global foodtech sector, meeting growing demand for personalised, healthy meals.
