Fiverr is introducing new AI tools designed to help gig workers automate tasks and increase their earning potential.
The gig marketplace announced a program allowing freelancers in fields like voice-over and graphic design to train AI models using their existing work. Customers would then pay for access to these AI models.
Fiverr CEO Micha Kaufman framed this as a way to ensure freelancers “receive proper credit and compensation while giving them unprecedented tools to scale their work.” This move comes as generative AI tools have intensified competition in the gig market, potentially displacing writers, programmers, and app developers.
Fiverr’s solution is the “Personal AI Creation Model,” where contractors create AI models based on their work (artwork, code, etc.) and set prices for usage. Freelancers retain ownership of the AI-generated content, including song lyrics, illustrations, and marketing materials.
Initially, the Personal AI Creation Model, priced at $25/month, will be available to a select group of “top, vetted” freelancers. Fiverr emphasises it won’t use gig worker data to train competing in-house models and that the AI model can be disabled.
Users of the Personal AI Creation Model can also access the “Personal AI Assistant” ($29/month or included in a premium plan), a customer service chatbot trained on the freelancer’s client communications.
Additionally, Fiverr announced a program to award shares in the company to top-performing contractors. Fiverr’s market cap was around $1.16 billion as of last Friday, with recent improvements in share performance.
