Auckland’s new home construction seems to be steadying around 1,400 to 1,500 completions per month, based on recent data.
Auckland Council’s data shows 1,444 Code Compliance Certificates (CCCs) were issued in November 2024, which follows 1,497 in October and 1,451 in September. However, this is still less than the September to November 2023 period, when new dwelling completions exceeded 1900 per month.
In November 2024, 66% of CCCs were issued within two years of building consent, a drop from 73% in the same month during the previous year.
That’s probably due to projects being delayed due to the difficult state of the housing market, with many jobs being put on hold for a period of time.
However, the number of new homes being built in Auckland is likely to fall further at some stage.
Unlike building consents, which are typically granted before construction begins, Code Compliance Certificates (CCCs) are issued upon a building’s completion. This makes CCCs a more dependable measure of actual new housing supply.
