Apple is reportedly in the process of creating a large, foldable iPad that can expand to the size of two iPad Pros. According to Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, the tech giant has been developing this innovative device for several years and anticipates its market launch around 2028.

The current largest iPad measures 13 inches. However, the new model is expected to feature a significantly larger display that improves gaming and viewing experiences. This device will fold for easier transport when not in use.

Previous attempts by Microsoft and Lenovo to introduce similar concepts have seen limited success. In contrast, Apple’s design aims to present a seamless appearance, resembling a single piece of glass instead of two separate screens placed side by side.

Early prototypes reportedly exhibit a “nearly” invisible crease on the display, but Apple is striving for a solution that completely eliminates this crease—a challenge that other manufacturers, like Samsung with its Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Flip models, have struggled to overcome.

Challenges related to hinge design and display protection have been noted as notable hurdles in the development process.

Although foldable phones currently represent a small fraction of the overall market, they are expected to see substantial growth in the coming years, particularly if Apple enters this segment.

Additionally, there are reports suggesting that Apple is also working on a foldable iPhone, which may not debut until at least 2026. Meanwhile, a thinner iPhone model is anticipated for release next year.
