The Student Job Search app is designed to help students find job opportunities and is being welcomed as a simple, practical way to support youth employment.
Student Job Search Chief Executive Louise Saviker says the latest data from the first quarter shows strong demand among students for paid work. Many are taking on more than one job just to stay financially afloat. For them, having access to work isn’t just helpful anymore—it’s essential.
The new mobile app for student jobseekers is now live, bringing a range of helpful features to make finding work easier. It includes a live map that shows jobs near you, plus a Quick Apply option to reduce repetitive paperwork.
It’s also the first job-seeking app in New Zealand to let users upload a short introduction video, giving employers a better sense of who they are before they even meet.
Louise says the new app is part of Student Job Search’s continued push to help more students connect with available job opportunities.
“As a charity, we’ve been connecting students with job opportunities for more than 40 years to help reduce student hardship. This app is going to take that to the next level.”
“Students can now browse and apply for jobs from anywhere, whether that’s waiting for the bus, in line for coffee, or between lectures. Meanwhile, employers can rest assured that their job listings will be easily accessible and attract a wide range of applicants.”
Louise says a lot of time and careful thought have gone into making sure the app is genuinely fit for purpose.
She adds that more than 1,500 students were involved in the process to help shape and refine it.
“We surveyed them on what they look for in an app and held information-gathering workshops before having students test the app in the final stages of development.”
“We have been careful throughout to ensure we are creating something that meets the needs of today’s students.
“We’re not the first organisation to have a mobile app developed, but we are proud to have the first app tailored specifically for New Zealand’s job-seeking students.”
The Student Job Search app is now available to download on both Google Play and the App Store.
