Bluesky has launched private bookmarks, called “Saved Posts,” allowing users to privately save content for later viewing. This feature adds a bookmark icon beneath each post alongside the heart for liking, with saved posts accessible from a new section in the app’s main menu.

Unlike likes, which are public on Bluesky, saved posts remain private. This appeals to users who want to keep certain content discreet, such as journalists saving research material or those bookmarking sensitive posts without broadcasting their interests.

The platform is built on the decentralised AT Protocol, which currently does not support private user data. To ensure privacy, Bluesky stores bookmarks off-protocol, similar to its direct messaging. The company plans to update this as the protocol develops.

Saved Posts also replace a common workaround where users replied with a red pushpin emoji to mark posts for later. A migration tool helps users transition to the new system.

This update follows recent improvements including a combined photo and video upload button, feedback tools for custom feed creators, and the ability to build “Starter Parks,” which are collections of recommended accounts aimed at enhancing community discovery.
