U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the United States to withdraw from 66 international organisations, many focused on climate change. The list includes 31 UN bodies, notably the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the foundation of global warming efforts.
Announced via memorandum on January 7, 2026, the White House cited misuse of taxpayer funds on misaligned agendas.
“These withdrawals will end American taxpayer funding and involvement in entities that advance globalist agendas over U.S. priorities,” the administration stated. Officials criticised promotion of radical climate policies and global governance conflicting with U.S. sovereignty.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which assesses worldwide climate science, is among those affected, alongside UN programmes on peacekeeping, family planning, maternal health, and conflict-related sexual violence.
This aligns with Trump’s rejection of human-caused climate change as a hoax and prior exits, including the Paris Agreement in 2025 and skipping COP30 in Brazil. Legal challenges may arise, as the Constitution lacks clear withdrawal rules for Senate-ratified treaties.
