Uber Eats, the prominent food delivery service in the United States, is broadening its reach in New Zealand by introducing services in 12 new locations.
On Wednesday, Uber Eats said its services will be available in Masterton, Levin, Taupō, Whakatāne, Timaru, Blenheim, Ashburton, Tokoroa, Te Awamutu, Ōamaru, Wānaka, and Hāwera in early November.
The company is also expanding in existing areas by incorporating Paraparaumu and Feilding into its service coverage near Wellington and Palmerston North.
“This expansion means more Kiwis can experience the convenience of getting their favourite meals and groceries delivered straight to their doorstep, creating new opportunities for local businesses to grow and delivery people to earn,” Uber Eats Aoteroa general manager Andy Bowie said.
Since its introduction in 2014, Uber has provided services to over two million residents of New Zealand through its ridesharing and food delivery platforms, with 100,000 Kiwis participating as drivers or delivery personnel for the company.
In August, Uber faced a setback when it lost an appeal that confirmed an Employment Court decision stating that Uber drivers are classified as employees instead of independent contractors.
