New analysis by the recruitment platform SEEK highlights communication, relationship-building, and team leadership as the most sought-after workplace skills.
“As tools and technology continue to reshape the way we work, New Zealand employers are placing a strong emphasis on human skills, or what can be known as power skills,” SEEK country manager Rob Clark said.
“Businesses are looking for people who can communicate clearly, build strong relationships, and lead teams with empathy and clarity.”
“In other words, the skills that enable teams to deliver results and make the most of new technology.”
Other highly sought-after skills include customer service, team leadership, relationship building and management, proficiency in Microsoft Office, data cleaning, analysis, investigation, and project management.
“There are real opportunities for those who prioritise and develop these in-demand skills, whether through upskilling, training, or hands-on experience,” Clark said.
Job seekers focusing on developing these skills may find themselves better positioned in a competitive labour market.
“It is also really valuable to make sure your skills are front and centre on your CV and your SEEK Profile so employers can see if you’re the right fit for their position,” Clark added.
