A new global partnership between Syngenta Crop Protection and Ceres Biotics, announced on 20th February 2025, in Basel, Switzerland, will make VIXERAN® more accessible to farmers around the world.
This biostimulant, designed to enhance nitrogen use efficiency, aims to optimise crop yields while reducing the environmental toll of traditional fertilisation techniques.
Addressing the Need for Sustainable Nitrogen Solutions
Nitrogen plays a crucial role in plant growth, yet most crops struggle to access it directly from the atmosphere. Traditional synthetic fertilisers provide the necessary supply but come at the cost of high energy use and significant greenhouse gas emissions. VIXERAN® steps in as a promising solution, with mounting pressure to adopt sustainable farming practices.
VIXERAN® helps crops take in nitrogen from their surroundings more efficiently by using Azotobacter salinestris (CECT9690), a type of bacteria that lives inside plants. This bacteria makes it easier for the crops to adapt to different fertilisation methods.
A Game-Changer in Nitrogen Management
VIXERAN® is designed to complement, not replace, traditional synthetic fertilisers, enhancing nitrogen absorption to help farmers sustain or increase crop yields while reducing their dependency on synthetic inputs.
This strategy supports the agricultural sector’s growing focus on both sustainability and cost-effectiveness,
“Syngenta is investing significantly to bring the most innovative biological solutions to farmers around the world,” said Jonathan Brown, Global Head Seedcare and Biologicals at Syngenta,
“Biostimulants that boost the nutrient use efficiency of crops have a significant role in strengthening the sustainability of agriculture, and are integral to Syngenta’s efforts to improve both crop yields and soil health. We are excited to work with Ceres Biotics in this fast-evolving area of plant nutrition.”
Expanding VIXERAN® to Global Markets
Syngenta and Ceres Biotics have expanded their partnership to offer VIXERAN® worldwide, following the success of their earlier collaboration that introduced the biostimulant in the European Union,
We are excited to collaborate with Syngenta to bring to the market novel and sustainable biostimulants that improve nutrient use efficiency and maximize yield, helping farmers implement more sustainable agricultural practices,” said Emilio Marin, CEO and co-founder of Ceres Biotics.
“VIXERAN® will be accessible to farmers globally, and this is a big step towards building up more sustainable crop management systems.”
The expanded access to biological nitrogen solutions reinforces both companies’ dedication to fostering innovation in agriculture, enabling farmers to reduce input costs and enhance sustainability in food production.
