A new app has been launched that lets users access government information and services on their phones.
Digitising Government and Public Service Minister Judith Collins described the govt.nz app as a safe and convenient way for people to access the services they require.
Collins said the app was “an important milestone in our work to ensure we have a digital public service that is customer-focused, efficient, and future-ready.”
It enables users to access reliable information and services from various government agencies, personalise their experience based on what is most relevant to them, and receive emergency alerts from organisations such as the National Emergency Management Agency and Fire and Emergency.
Over the next few months, new features like messaging and notifications will be introduced, along with a digital wallet to store identity credentials such as licences and qualifications. When digital driver licences become available, they can be stored in the digital wallet.
“People will continue to be able to access government services in a range of ways. Our goal is to offer an option that is secure and convenient, while maintaining the highest standards of safety,” Collins said.
