Instagram has just introduced a new feature that allows users to schedule direct messages (DMs). The new tool, confirmed by the Meta-owned platform, offers convenience for creators, brands, and everyday users who aim to send messages at optimal times or across different time zones.
The scheduling process is simple: users compose a message, press and hold the send button, and then select a desired date and time for delivery. Messages can be scheduled up to 29 days in advance.
Once a DM is scheduled, a notification banner appears in the chat, reminding users of the pending message until it is sent. However, this feature currently supports only text-based messages as multimedia content like images or videos must still be sent in real-time.
This addition is part of Instagram’s effort to improve its messaging system. Recently, Instagram introduced features such as location sharing via DMs, challenging services like Apple’s Find My and Snapchat’s Snap Map.
Users can also now assign nicknames in chats and customise DM names. For creators, new tools have been added to sort and filter message requests by criteria such as follower count, verified accounts, or brand affiliation.
The scheduling feature not only simplifies communication for busy users but also ensures timely outreach for professional and personal purposes without requiring manual intervention at specific times.
