The generative AI tool can answer employee questions, help build apps, and suggest fresh lines of code.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially announced the availability of Amazon Q. This generative artificial intelligence assistant is designed to help customers enhance software development workflows and allow companies to use their business data to improve productivity.
“Amazon Q is the most capable generative AI-powered assistant available today with industry-leading accuracy, advanced agents capabilities, and best-in-class security that helps developers become more productive and helps business users to accelerate decision-making. Since we announced the service at re: Invent, we have been amazed at the productivity gains developers and business users have seen. Early indications signal Amazon Q could help our customers’ employees become more than 80% more productive at their jobs, and with the new features we’re planning on introducing in the future, we think this will only continue to grow,” Dr. Swami Sivasubramanian, vice president of artificial intelligence and data at AWS, said in a statement.
AWS offers the assistant in three flavours: the Amazon Q Business, Amazon Q Developer, and Amazon Q Apps, which is still in preview.
The Amazon Q Business is AWS’ innovative solution to aid organisations in consolidating extensive volumes of information using generative AI within a user-friendly hub, making access to important company data easier for employees. With Amazon Q Business, employees can use simple text prompts to access content, get summaries, answer workplace questions, and complete tasks based on enterprise data.
For example, a marketing team member can ask Q Business through a messaging app. Q Business will then search for company information sources and provide an answer directly within the messaging platform.
Amazon Q Developer can be a customer’s expert companion in generating code using SQL, a programming language used to establish and manage databases, test, debug, security scan, and perform other tasks within the developer lifecycle. According to AWS statistics, developers spend 30% or less of their time on coding, with the rest of it spent on repetitive tasks, which Amazon Q can now help them do.
The Amazon Q Apps can be found within the Amazon Q Business tool. The Q Apps allows employees to develop their own generative AI applications without the need for any coding experience. All they need to do is describe, in natural language, the app they want to build, and Q Apps will automatically generate it.
To help users master Amazon Q, the company has launched two free, self-paced courses: the Amazon Q Introduction course, which provides a detailed overview of Amazon Q, and the Amazon Q Business Getting Started course, which offers audiences a comprehensive insight into the technology, features, and use cases of Amazon Q Business, along with detailed instructions on constructing a chatbot using Amazon Q.
