The New Zealand Law Society has announced a new partnership with Gallagher Insurance, offering its members access to LawSure, a tailored professional indemnity insurance product, alongside professional development opportunities.
The Law Society confirmed the initiative in a recent statement, positioning the partnership as part of its ongoing effort to support members with risk management and professional growth.
Access Restricted to Law Society Members
According to the Law Society, LawSure will be made available only to members and firms meeting its eligibility rules.
The product is underwritten by Agile Insurance Group NZ Limited – a Lloyd’s of London syndicate. Gallagher said the policy was designed for small firms and sole practitioners and meets the Society’s minimum regulatory requirements.
Coverage Designed for Legal Sector Needs
Gallagher said LawSure includes a maximum of $500,000 cover for regulatory complaints, fidelity coverage against losses from dishonest or fraudulent employee acts, and protection for unintentional breaches of the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009.
Lawsure also provides cover for irrecoverable fees and disbursements. The insurer will manage claims services with a panel of defence lawyers, ensuring tailored support for members.
Milestone Partnership for the Profession
Amanda Woodbridge, the Law Society’s general manager, said the partnership was a “milestone” and “an important addition to its partner program, which aims to offer members great value.”
“It is something that we have been working hard to achieve over many months,” Woodbridge said.
Professional Development to Support Risk Management
Gallagher will deliver professional education to support the legal profession. The first announced initiative is a Managing Professional Risk webinar, scheduled for 9 October 2025.
The Law Society said all members of the profession are welcome to attend, with discounted rates available for Society members.
“As well as insurance services and expertise, Gallagher also supports education, reflecting our shared commitment to a strong, progressive and trusted legal profession,” Woodbridge added.
Insurance and Education Package Reinforces Sector Confidence
LawSure, underwritten by Agile Insurance Group NZ Limited, will be available only to Society members and firms that meet eligibility thresholds.
