Some shoppers are running into delays when trying to sign up for Foodstuffs’ new Club+ loyalty programme, as the co-operative says high early interest has put pressure on the system ahead of next month’s launch.

Foodstuffs North Island and Foodstuffs South Island have unveiled Club+, a new rewards programme launching across their major supermarket brands on June 15.

Under the Club+ programme, shoppers will earn Club+ Dollars on purchases at New World and Four Square, with the rewards able to be redeemed across all three supermarket brands, including Pak’n’Save.

While Pak’n’Save customers won’t earn reward points under the scheme, they will still be able to use Club+ Dollars, along with accessing fuel discounts and personalised deals.

One shopper said they received a message in the app saying, “We are currently experiencing high volumes of customers joining Club+, which may result in a delay while joining. Hold tight; we’re working to get this sorted ASAP. Please try again later.”

Another shopper said they ran into problems getting the verification code needed to sign up, saying it didn’t come through at first before four codes arrived all at once.

Foodstuffs New Zealand acknowledged the issues in a statement; it said the delays were typical of early-stage issues that can come with large-scale rollouts, adding that work is already underway to fix the technical problems.

“The level of interest has been incredibly strong, and our teams are working hard to make sure everyone who wants to join can do so before Club+ officially launches on June 15,” Foodstuffs said in a statement.

“As can be the case with a launch of this scale, there are some early fixes and improvements being worked through.”
