Hamilton’s Anglesea Hospital is growing through a new on-site orthopaedic facility, developed in partnership with Evolution Healthcare and top specialists from Anglesea Hospital.

The $75 million project kicked off with initial earthworks and will include four cutting-edge operating theatres plus 24 inpatient beds with High Dependency Unit (HDU) capabilities.

The new orthopaedic hospital is scheduled for completion in Q4 2027.

“The new orthopaedic facility will transform the patient experience for healthcare services in the Waikato,” Anglesea Hospital general manager Nicky van Praagh said.

“Purpose-built spaces designed for recovery, advanced equipment and optimised patient flow will mean shorter surgery times, smoother admissions and much more comfortable recovery environments.”

“Creating a centre of excellence in Hamilton with a specialised orthopaedic hub positions Anglesea as a leading destination for musculoskeletal surgery, supporting clinical innovation, research opportunities, and recruitment of high-calibre specialists, while also meeting growth for future healthcare demand.”

“Part of this future-proofing includes the ability for a further 21 beds and two more operating theatres to be added to the new hospital when required.”

Hamilton’s Anglesea Hospital excels in gynaecology, orthopaedics, general, plastic, ENT, paediatric, and urology surgery.
