Opera has enhanced its browsing experience by incorporating Google’s Gemini into its browsers. Users of Opera browsers will now have access to Gemini through the Aria artificial intelligence assistant.
Integration of Google’s Gemini AI models into the existing Aria AI extension empowers Opera web browser users with more up-to-date information and conversational responses.
Introduced last year, Aria is an artificial intelligence assistant that addresses user queries, coding tasks, and various other functions. Opera highlights that Aria’s responsiveness isn’t limited to a single AI model but selects the most suitable one for specific tasks. With this recent integration, Aria gains access to Gemini, which the company describes as a source of the latest information with high performance.
Aria, available across all Opera browsers including Opera GX for gaming, now has Gemini’s capabilities.
The Gemini family comprises various models with distinct sizes and functionalities. Ranging from the smallest Gemini Nano tailored for mobile devices to the more robust Gemini Ultra, these models serve diverse purposes. Moreover, Gemini Pro and Gemini Ultra are both used in the Gemini chatbot.
Opera users can experience this AI innovation as Aria delivers responses audibly in a conversational manner. Google’s text-to-audio AI technology powers Aria’s read-aloud function, much like ChatGPT’s Read Aloud feature, although the latter recently underwent a change in its voice provider.
Opera has a history of collaboration with Google’s AI models, as shown by Aria’s integration of Google’s Imagen 2 model in April, which facilitates image generation directly within the Opera browser.
Currently, the enhanced Aria AI is available only in the Opera One Developer version, which allows users to test new AI features, including image generation, using Google’s Imagen 2 model on the Vertex AI platform. You can download this version from Opera’s website, but it might be wise to wait for the Gemini integration so you can check out the final version. Opera, built on Google’s Chromium engine like Chrome and Edge, is a solid alternative to more popular browsers, which offers easy import of your history and bookmarks.
