Google Wallet Launches New AI Feature for Digital Passes

google wallet launches new ai feature for digital passes

Google Wallet has recently introduced an exciting new feature that allows users to create digital versions of various passes, including event tickets, gym membership cards—even library cards—using advanced artificial intelligence technology. This innovative feature, aptly named “Everything Else,” is now being rolled out across the United States, making it easier for users to leave their physical wallets at home and rely solely on their smartphones for most of their daily needs.

While mobile payment options have been available for quite some time, the ability to store and access various forms of identification and passes digitally has been inconsistent. Google is making significant strides in this area as it allows users to confidently travel without the burden of a physical wallet.

The “Everything Else” section in Google Wallet enhances the user experience by providing a dedicated space for storing a wide range of passes that do not fit into the existing categories. Previously, users could add their IDs, passport, business cards, payment cards, transit passes, loyalty cards, and gift cards, but now they have the flexibility to include an even broader array of documents. This new section allows users to store event tickets, gym memberships, health insurance cards, and much more, all in one convenient location.

When users select the “Everything Else” option, the app prompts them to grant permission for Google’s AI to process their sensitive information. The AI then intelligently classifies the data and automatically converts it into a digital pass. Users can simply take a photo of the pass they wish to add, and the AI will handle the rest, organising the data into relevant categories such as private pass, health pass, or driver’s licence.

After the data is scanned and processed, users have the ability to review all the fields and make any necessary corrections. This level of oversight is crucial, as it allows users to ensure that their digital passes are accurate and up-to-date. If the AI detects sensitive information, it will automatically convert the pass into a private pass, protecting the user’s data and providing an additional layer of security.

Moreover, users can manually assign scanned passes to their desired categories, offering flexibility and control over how their information is organised. This feature is particularly useful for individuals who may have unique needs or specific preferences regarding their digital pass organisation. However, as of this writing, the “Everything Else” feature is available exclusively in the United States.
