Google Classroom has rolled out an artificial intelligence-driven tool to help educators create quizzes and assessments more efficiently.

The feature, which uses the Gemini language model, enables teachers to generate customised questions by uploading documents from Google Drive or inputting text directly. Educators can tailor the output by adjusting parameters such as educational level, question quantity, and format—including multiple-choice or open-ended styles—while specifying skills like critical analysis or literary interpretation.

Access to this functionality is restricted to Google Workspace for Education subscribers who hold either the Gemini Education add-on (approximately NZD 42.30 per user) or the Gemini Education Premium tier (roughly NZD 63.45 per user), based on current exchange rates.

Since its initial integration into Classroom in 2024, Gemini’s capabilities have expanded to include automated vocabulary list generation, lesson plan suggestions, and summarisation tools for notes or feedback.

For educators in New Zealand, availability may depend on institutional subscriptions and regional rollout phases. Third-party alternatives like GPT Quiz Generator for Forms™ remain accessible globally, offering features such as multilingual support and handwritten text recognition.

Teachers are advised to verify feature availability through their institution’s Google Workspace admin console or explore cross-platform tools if regional restrictions apply.
