Gmail encounters widespread disruption in spam filtering and email sorting functions. Users across the globe report chaotic inboxes as the service struggles with misplaced messages and erroneous security alerts.
Google Workspace’s official status dashboard confirms the problems started around 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Saturday, 24 January 2026. Those affected face “misclassification of emails in their inbox and additional spam warnings,” with promotional and social content spilling into Primary tabs while trusted emails trigger undue spam cautions.
Personal accounts highlight the disarray. Main inboxes brim with items normally confined to Promotions, Social or Updates categories. Social media echoes these woes, as one user lamented “all the spam is going directly to my inbox” and another observed that Gmail’s filters appear “suddenly completely busted.”
“We are actively working to resolve the issue,” Google said. “As always, we encourage users to follow standard best practices when engaging with messages from unknown senders.”
Signs of partial recovery emerged by Sunday 25 January, though some delivery delays linger according to monitoring sites.
