Gmail’s New AI Feature Arrives on Android

gmail's new ai feature arrives on android

Google has begun the rollout of its AI chatbot feature, Gmail Q&A, for Android users, which improves email management capabilities within the Gmail app. This allows users to interact with Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, in order to retrieve information from their inboxes.

The Gmail Q&A feature enables users to ask Gemini various questions about their emails, such as locating specific details, viewing unread messages, filtering emails from particular senders, or summarising content related to specific topics.

This functionality was initially showcased at Google’s I/O conference earlier this year and is now being made available on Android devices, with an iOS version expected to follow soon.

Gmail Q&A aims to simplify the process of going through emails, making it easier to find important information that may be hidden within a crowded inbox. However, access to Gmail Q&A is limited as users must either subscribe to Google One AI Premium or be part of a Google Workspace plan that includes the necessary Gemini enhancements.

As with many AI tools, users are advised to verify the accuracy of the information provided by Gemini because there may be instances of errors or inaccuracies.

The rollout of Gmail Q&A began on Thursday, and Google anticipates that it may take up to 15 days for the feature to become available to all users.
