OpenAI has announced a significant update for ChatGPT users, allowing those on the free tier to generate up to two images per day using the DALL-E 3 model.
This feature, which was previously exclusive to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, is part of the company’s continuous innovation to boost accessibility to artificial intelligence-generated content, as well as leverage the capabilities of a large language model like ChatGPT.
Launched last September, DALL-E 3 has introduced several improvements over its predecessors. One notable enhancement is its ability to generate prompts for image creation, simplifying the process for users. They can now produce unique visuals tailored to their needs by utilising the data and information generated by DALL-E 3.
OpenAI encourages users to boost their creativity and leverage this feature for various tasks, such as designing presentation slides, coming up with a logo or icon for a brand, creating graphics for social media, or simply personalising greeting cards.
The rollout of this image generation technology is currently underway, and many users may already have access. However, for those seeking to create more than two images daily, a ChatGPT Plus subscription remains necessary, priced at $20 per month.
In addition to these updates, OpenAI’s ChatGPT will soon be integrated into Apple’s Siri across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. This integration will enable Siri to provide ChatGPT responses directly, although users will need to grant permission for each interaction.
Furthermore, ChatGPT will be accessible through Apple’s system-wide Writing Tools, thus improving user experience by allowing them to generate text and images seamlessly. Apple has assured users that OpenAI will not retain any ChatGPT requests made from its devices, and users’ IP addresses will be anonymised.
