Former U.S. President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, ex-Secretary of State, will give sworn evidence in a House investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, the sex offender who died in prison in 2019. The agreement comes just before a vote on contempt charges against them for ignoring subpoenas from the Republican-led Oversight Committee.

Angel Ureña, Bill Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, confirmed the move on X on Monday. “They negotiated in good faith,” he wrote to the committee. “You did not. They told you under oath what they know, but you don’t care. But the former President and former Secretary of State will be there. They look forward to setting a precedent that applies to everyone.”

The probe, launched in 2025, scrutinises government handling of Epstein’s crimes and has subpoenaed other officials. Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s jet four times in 2002–2003 but ended contact before his 2008 conviction and denies knowing of offences. No victims have accused him.

Photos from Epstein’s estate, released last December, show Clinton poolside and in a hot tub. The Clintons’ letter to chair James Comer criticised his approach.

“The decisions you have made, and the priorities you have set as chairman regarding the Epstein investigation, have prevented progress in discovering the facts about the government’s role,” it said. They added, “There is no plausible explanation for what you are doing other than partisan politics.”

The pair called subpoenas “nothing more than a ploy to attempt to embarrass political rivals, as President Trump has directed.” Comer insisted “no-one is above the law” after months of delays. Dates for depositions are pending—the first for an ex-president since Gerald Ford in 1983.
