Australian electronics manufacturer Circuitwise Group has expanded into Christchurch with the acquisition of Assembly Specialists Limited (ASL).

The acquisition is a follow-up to the company’s earlier integration of Nautech Electronics and brings its total presence to three automated sites across Australasia.

Circuitwise Deepens Regional Reach with ASL Purchase

Circuitwise Group, backed by private equity firm Quadrant, has added Christchurch to its growing network of manufacturing sites through the acquisition of Assembly Specialists Limited. The move follows its recent purchase of Auckland-based Nautech Electronics, marking the second New Zealand acquisition in under a year and expanding its operational base to Sydney, Auckland, and Christchurch.

Family-Owned Electronics Manufacturer Scales Up

Circuitwise was launched by Roz and Greg Ross in 1987 as Tresmine and rebranded in 2014. Since 2019, their children Serena and Sean Ross have led the company. CEO Serena Ross said the acquisition would “enhance Circuitwise Group’s regional presence and reinforce its commitment to delivering innovative solutions across Australasia.”

ASL Integration Focuses on Stability and Capability

ASL will continue to operate under its own name, with no immediate leadership changes, according to Circuitwise. The decision aims to preserve stability for employees and customers. “ASL’s strong customer relationships, quality, and technical capabilities complement Circuitwise Group’s mission to provide world-class manufacturing services,” said Ross. Circuitwise will implement its proprietary systems to improve productivity and traceability across the group.

Strengthens Regional Manufacturing Capabilities

Circuitwise is reinforcing its commitment to local production in response to global supply chain challenges.

Ross said, “Local manufacturing was increasingly important for Australian and NZ companies looking for better delivery speed and reliability, enhanced communication and responsiveness, collaboration and support for testing and design for manufacture, reduced vulnerability to geopolitical disputes and tariff fluctuations, and stronger intellectual property protection.”

The company sees regional capability as key to long-term client stability. Ross continues to frame local manufacturing as an advantage.

Prepares for Three-Site Manufacturing Operation

Once the ASL acquisition completes in the September 2025 quarter, Circuitwise will operate three automated facilities across Sydney, Auckland, and Christchurch. According to the company, “Customers will benefit from the increased capability of the group and enhanced supply chain resilience.”

ASL CEO Chris Woodman said the deal would allow the company to elevate its service offering. He noted the alignment in customer-focused values between the two businesses.
