BNZ said it will support customers impacted by the severe weather events.

The package includes:

  • Ability to review home lending facilities on a case-by-case basis.
  • Access to temporary personal overdrafts to support customers who require access to funds urgently while they await insurance pay-outs. Standard interest rates and credit criteria apply.
  • Access to temporary overdrafts of up to $10,000 with no application fee for small business customers. Standard interest rates and credit criteria apply.
  • Access to temporary overdrafts for Agri, Business, and Commercial customers up to $100,000, with no application fee. Standard interest rates and credit criteria apply.

The support package is available to customers in Northland, Hauraki, Bay of Plenty, and Thames-Coromandel District, all of which have declared states of emergency due to the weather.

“If you’ve been impacted by the flooding in Northland and are concerned about your finances, please call us,” BNZ Executive, Personal & Business Banking, Anna Flower said.

“We understand that some of our customers may be facing unexpected challenges to their homes, businesses and communities as a result of the severe weather in Northland,” Flower added.

“We are offering practical support to help relieve some of the pressure during this time, so people can focus on the clean-up and recovery.”

While ATMs remain operational, BNZ has temporarily closed its Whitianga branch.

“The safety of our customers and people is our number one priority, so we’ve made the decision to close our Whitianga branch temporarily.”

Flower said Whitianga customers can continue banking online, via phone, or through the BNZ app.
