BNZ is providing targeted assistance to customers impacted by heavy swells in Wellington’s Southern and Eastern Wards, where a local state of emergency has been declared.

The targeted support package includes case-by-case reviews of home lending facilities, allowing flexibility based on individual circumstances. Customers who need urgent access to funds while waiting for insurance payouts may also apply for temporary personal overdrafts, subject to standard interest rates and credit criteria.

For small business customers, BNZ is offering temporary overdrafts of up to $10,000 with no application fee, also subject to standard interest rates and lending criteria. Agri, business, and commercial customers can access higher temporary overdrafts of up to $100,000, likewise with no application fee and standard lending conditions applying.

“Some of our customers in Wellington’s Southern and Eastern Wards may be dealing with disruption to their homes, businesses and communities as a result of the heavy swells,” Anna Flower of BNZ said.

She said the support is aimed at providing practical options and helping to ease immediate financial pressure, allowing people to focus on staying safe and recovering.

“We also know every customer’s situation will be different, so we encourage anyone who is concerned about their finances or needs extra support to get in touch with us,” Flower added.

To discuss support options, business and agribusiness customers are encouraged to contact their BNZ Partner.

Small business owners can call 0800 BNZSME, while personal banking customers can access assistance through BNZ’s digital platforms or by phoning 0800 ASKBNZ.
