Amazon has introduced a new feature called Add to Delivery for its Prime members in the United States, which allows shoppers to add items to orders that have already been completed but not yet shipped.
This addition aims to solve a common issue where customers realise they have forgotten something only after placing their order. The feature is available exclusively through the Amazon Shopping app and the mobile version of Amazon.com.
Eligible items for this option include a variety of categories such as electronics, clothing, books and groceries. When browsing, shoppers will notice a blue Add to Delivery button just below the traditional yellow Add to Cart button on qualifying products.
By tapping this button, the item is instantly added to the next scheduled delivery—either later that day or the following day, depending on availability. If added by mistake or if the shopper changes their mind, they have the option to undo the addition almost immediately.

Amazon initially trialled this feature with a limited group of Prime members before expanding access more broadly. The company emphasises that no extra shipping fees apply to last-minute additions, which are simply charged to the original payment method used for the completed order. An updated confirmation is sent once the item is successfully included.
The move reflects Amazon’s understanding of evolving shopping behaviours, recognising that consumers tend to shop one item at a time, addressing immediate needs as they arise. As Amazon states, the service is designed to align with “how people actually shop: one need at a time, as they arise.” The functionality is especially valuable for those who frequently discover forgotten items post-checkout.
Membership in Amazon Prime is required to use this feature, costing $14.99 per month or $139 annually in the U.S. This new flexibility improves the shopping experience by enabling seamless additions to pending deliveries without extra cost or the hassle of placing a new order.
Though currently limited to the U.S. market, this option may eventually reach international Amazon Prime members, extending similar convenience globally.
