The winners of the highly anticipated 2024 Deloitte Top 200 Awards were unveiled on Thursday at a black-tie gala held at the Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland. 

The highlight of the evening was the recognition of Fonterra as the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Company of the Year. 

The AWS Company of the Year honours an organisation’s exceptional performance over the past year. The evaluation criteria include the most recent financial metrics, along with non-financial and qualitative aspects of organisational performance, including corporate reputation and environmental management practices. 

In addition to Fonterra’s accolades, chief executive officer Miles Hurrell was honoured as the ServiceNow Chief Executive Officer of the Year. The award focuses on the achievements of the organisation led by the CEO, assessing their contributions to that success and the company’s strategic direction. 

Tax Traders Chief Financial Officer of the Year is given to Mike Roan, chief financial officer of Meridian. 

Roan, who has been with Meridian since 2006 and has served as chief financial officer since 2019, cites the signing of a long-term power supply agreement and the company’s strong financial performance as some of his proudest achievements during what has been a challenging year for the energy sector.

Meanwhile, Jan Dawson, Chairperson of Port of Auckland, was awarded Forsyth Barr Chairperson of the Year for her role in rebuilding trust and enhancing collaboration within her organisation.

Telecommunications company Spark NZ wins Snowflake Sustainability Leadership, recognising its role as a leader in environmental and social responsibility within the telecommunications sector. 

The Best Growth Strategy award, which puts spotlight to an organisation’s outstanding growth performance, is given to infrastructure investment company Infratil. 

Other notable winners included The a2 Milk Company, which received the award for Most Improved Performance. Fonterra’s Richard Allen is recognised as the University of Auckland Business School Young Executive of the Year and Port of Auckland as the Barfoot & Thompson Diversity and Inclusion Leadership awardee. 

“I’m excited to see how the 2024 winners and finalists continue to lead the next wave through seeking new opportunities, remaining ambitious for the future, and finding new ways to add value,” Deloitte New Zealand chief executive Mike Horne said. 

The Deloitte Top 200 Awards is an annual event that celebrates outstanding individuals, companies, and management team performances among New Zealand’s largest companies and trading organizations. These awards have become a prestigious platform for showcasing the best of New Zealand business, focusing on resilience, innovation, and strategic leadership in a challenging economic environment.
