The Association for Talent Development (ATD), in a report sponsored by SIY Global, highlights the value of building leadership capability at every level—including individual contributors, not just those in formal leadership roles.
According to the report, almost 79% of organisations declare a stronger workplace culture when leadership development is offered to all employees.
Meanwhile, 68% of employees who participated in leadership development reported improvements in their job performance.
“Organisations experience a continuation of organisational culture and a strengthened leadership pipeline when they offer leadership development at all levels,” the report read.
Leadership development programmes are structured training initiatives that have traditionally been designed for employees identified as future leaders. They have long been offered to executives, directors, and managers.
However, ATD’s recent findings show a growing shift, with more employers now extending leadership development opportunities to all employees, including individual contributors.
“Modern workplaces benefit when everyone is equipped to think critically, collaborate, and respond confidently to challenges in their roles,” the report said.
“This approach not only strengthens individual performance but also creates a more agile and resilient organisation that’s prepared to navigate the challenges of the future.”
One survey respondent said that leadership development isn’t just about titles.
“We are all leaders. It’s about influence, ownership, and impact. Every person in an organisation, from the front line to the executive suite, has opportunities to lead, make decisions, solve problems, and help others succeed.”
