Meta is reportedly preparing to test an artificial intelligence pendant as it looks to expand its range of wearable devices beyond smart glasses.

The product is expected to enter testing within the next year, according to an internal company memo reviewed by The Information. While Meta has not publicly confirmed the details, the device is likely to build on technology developed by Limitless, an AI hardware start-up acquired by the company in late 2025.

Before the takeover, Limitless sold a small recording device that could be worn around the neck or clipped onto clothing. The pendant was designed to capture conversations and use AI to produce transcripts, summaries, and searchable notes. When Meta announced the acquisition, it said the deal would help “accelerate our work to build AI-enabled wearables.”

The proposed device would mark another step in Meta’s efforts to make AI tools easier to use throughout the day without relying entirely on smartphones or computers. The company has already made progress in the wearables market through its partnership with eyewear group EssilorLuxottica, which has produced the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses range.

The memo reportedly outlines plans for additional AI-powered glasses, as well as a business subscription service called Wearables for Work. The service could give Meta a way to position its hardware as a workplace productivity tool rather than solely as a consumer gadget.

The company’s growing interest in wearable technology comes as its Reality Labs division continues to post heavy losses. The unit, which oversees Meta’s virtual reality, augmented reality, and hardware projects, recorded an operating loss of more than $4 billion in the first quarter of 2026.

Meta is entering a market that has already proved difficult for other technology companies. Several AI wearables have struggled to win over consumers, with critics questioning their usefulness and raising concerns about privacy and consent when conversations are recorded in public or professional settings.

The reported pendant suggests Meta is not abandoning the idea. Instead, the company appears to be betting that wearable AI could become more practical if it is integrated into devices that fit naturally into people’s daily routines.
