Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., alleging that the company used her image without permission on packaging for its television products sold in the United States.

The case was submitted to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and claims that Samsung placed a photograph of the singer on several television box designs without authorisation or any form of commercial agreement. The filing argues that the use of her likeness was not incidental, but part of a broader attempt to strengthen the appeal of its products by drawing on her global profile.

According to the legal complaint, the packaging strategy was intended to benefit from Lipa’s public recognition and commercial influence. It states that Samsung’s packaging was “designed to improperly capitalize on Ms. Lipa’s hard-earned success to promote and sell Samsung’s products.”

The lawsuit sets out multiple claims, including copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and misappropriation of likeness. Lipa’s legal team also maintains that she owns the copyright to the image in question, which was taken during her 2024 performance at the Austin City Limits Festival.

Court documents say the singer first became aware of the issue in June 2025 after the packaging began circulating on social media. The image quickly gained attention online, with users informally referring to the product as the “Dua Lipa TV Box,” a nickname that spread widely across platforms.

The filing also points to online reactions as evidence of the image’s marketing impact. It references an Instagram comment in which one user said they would “get that TV just because Dua is on it,” alongside another remark stating, “If you need anything selling just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it.”

Lipa’s representatives allege that Samsung did not respond adequately to “repeated demands” to “cease and desist from infringing on her rights,” suggesting that efforts to resolve the matter outside court were unsuccessful.

The complaint further highlights Lipa’s established history of brand partnerships, noting collaborations with Puma, Versace, and Yves Saint Laurent, as well as work with Apple, Porsche, and Chanel. More recently, she became a global ambassador for Nespresso, reflecting her continued prominence in high-profile commercial campaigns.

Alongside her commercial work, Lipa remains a leading figure in pop music. Her third studio album, Radical Optimism, released in 2024, marked another milestone in a career that has seen sustained international success.

Samsung has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
