Ford Motor Company has introduced a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence system for its Pro commercial vehicle business, aiming to accelerate profits and software income in a rapidly evolving sector.
The Detroit-based automaker unveiled Ford Pro AI on Tuesday, a tool that processes over one billion data points each day from connected fleet vehicles, delving into details like seatbelt compliance, mechanical health, route optimisation and fuel usage to deliver practical business intelligence.
Designed for its 840,000 paying subscribers—a figure that grew 30% last year—the platform equips fleet managers with capabilities to reduce vehicle downtime, heighten productivity and cut operational costs.
Ford Pro serves a diverse clientele including commercial operators, government agencies, rental firms and buyers of its heavy-duty Super Duty trucks. The division reported impressive figures for 2025, with $66 billion in revenue, $6.8 billion in earnings and a solid 10.3% profit margin.
“Helping them maximise their vehicles’ uptime, increase productivity, and lower costs isn’t just good business—it’s essential for all of us,” said Kevin Dunbar, general manager for Ford Pro Intelligence. “Our team is helping build the future of fleet operations,” he added during a media briefing.
Chief executive Jim Farley recently underscored the importance of diversifying Pro’s revenue through software, stating that telematics, mobile servicing and maintenance are nearing a 20% share of the unit’s earnings. Ford Pro AI slots into existing telematics subscriptions and operates on Google Cloud, drawing on the company’s proprietary datasets. It launches in an interactive, read-only format, with Ford pledging expansions to match customer needs.
This development taps into booming industry momentum, where AI promises transformative efficiencies. A McKinsey report predicts $1.3 trillion in value from AI in logistics by 2030, while rivals like GM’s OnStar Business Solutions and Tesla’s fleet software pursue comparable predictive technologies, according to FleetOwner insights.
