The government has activated its Temporary Accommodation Service (TAS) to assist those displaced by recent severe weather events impacting North Island regions.
Affected locations include Northland, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, Tairāwhiti, and other areas.
“The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is working closely with Civil Defence Emergency Management, the National Emergency Management Agency, local councils, communities, and Iwi to ensure a seamless transition for people in need to access safe, suitable accommodation,” Associate Minister of Housing Tama Potaka said.
MBIE’s Temporary Accommodation Service is now accepting registrations from individuals displaced by recent weather events or those anticipating a need for temporary housing.
MBIE is responsible for coordinating temporary accommodation after emergencies, in line with the National Civil Defence Emergency Management Plan Order 2015.
“Agencies will continue to work together to provide wrap-around support for communities affected by the severe weather events, including social services, mental health support, financial support and more,” Potaka said.
Potaka also acknowledges all marae, whānau, communities, and organisations supporting those with housing needs during this time.
More information on the Temporary Accommodation Service can be found on the TAS website.
