Microsoft’s AI chatbot Copilot will no longer be available on WhatsApp after January 15, 2026. This comes as WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, updated its platform policies to prohibit general-purpose AI chatbots from using the WhatsApp Business API.

As a result, users who wish to continue interacting with Copilot will need to switch to Microsoft’s dedicated Copilot apps or use the service through its website.

Meta’s new rules aim to focus the API on specific business services rather than broad AI chatbot access. Other AI providers like OpenAI and Perplexity are also ending their WhatsApp chatbot support due to these changes.

Since the chatbot access on WhatsApp was unauthenticated, users’ chat histories will not be saved when they move to Microsoft’s platforms. Microsoft advises users to export their conversation history via WhatsApp’s built-in tools before the deadline.

This policy update affects how AI chatbots are distributed on popular messaging platforms, cutting off direct AI access to WhatsApp’s extensive user base of over 2 billion.

Microsoft expressed pride in Copilot’s impact so far and is assisting users with a smooth transition to other platforms for uninterrupted AI assistance.

“If you’d like to keep a record of your conversations, we recommend exporting your chat history using WhatsApp’s built-in tools prior to January 15, 2026,” Microsoft stated.
