HP New Zealand has become the first IT brand in the country to secure dual sustainability certification from Eco Choice Aotearoa and TCO Certified, marking a new alignment between local and international ecolabel standards.
The collaboration aims to give technology buyers clearer and more credible signals of sustainability, covering durability, repairability, and responsible sourcing.
The announcement, made on 10 November 2025, means HP’s certified product range now includes display monitors, all-in-one PCs, desktops, notebooks, and Poly-branded headsets available in the New Zealand market.
“The need for sustainable IT products has never been more urgent, with Kiwis currently generating 10–15 kgs of e-waste per person annually, and only around 25% of that is being recycled,” said Laura Gemmell, Chief Executive Officer of Eco Choice Aotearoa.
“With this partnership with TCO Certified, we’re excited to make it easier for both procurers and individual consumers in New Zealand to make responsible purchasing decisions,” Gemmell added.
HP New Zealand Managing Director Shannon Harris said local buyers want trust and simplicity in sustainability claims. “Kiwis want credible, easy to understand signals that a device will last longer, use fewer resources and comes from a responsible supply chain,” she said.
Both Eco Choice Aotearoa and TCO Development are members of the Global Ecolabelling Network and operate independently of industry.
Clare Hobby, from TCO Development, said the partnership allows buyers “to request more sustainable computers and other devices, with the assurance that products and their supply chains have undergone rigorous third-party verification.”
