Torpedo7 will transition to an online-only store by February 2026.
Two Torpedo7 stores were shut down earlier this year, while 10 others were transformed into its The Outlet retail concept, which focuses on selling discounted branded clothing lines.
Owner Tahua Group announced that it will convert the remaining six stores into The Outlet locations early next year. Following that, Tahua Group stated that Torpedo7 would transition to a digital-only brand, concentrating on premium outdoor products.
Tahua acquired Torpedo7 from The Warehouse Group in February 2024 for $1.
It also owns retailers such as Number One Shoes and Hannahs. Additionally, it holds the franchise rights for major brands, including Starbucks, Burger King, and Popeyes, in New Zealand.
“By going digital-only, Torpedo7 can streamline, scale and grow profitably,” Retail division chief executive Lesley Francis-Ziogas said.
Meanwhile, Roger Harper, managing director of Tahua Group, said Tahua’s strategic focus is on investing in areas where it can provide the greatest value to customers and achieve strong commercial returns.
“This is a decisive move – one that protects the business, grows our reach, and sets us up for long-term success.”
Torpedo7 was established in Hamilton in 2004 by Luke Howard-Willis as an online retailer specialising in outdoor equipment. In 2014, The Warehouse Group purchased a 51% stake in the company for $33 million, eventually taking full ownership. Starting that year, Torpedo7 expanded into physical retail stores.
The Warehouse Group sold Torpedo7 to Tahua in 2024 due to increasing losses.
