Stellantis has announced a $13 billion investment to expand its manufacturing operations in the United States over the next four years, marking the largest investment in the company’s history. This substantial funding will increase U.S. vehicle production by about 50% and create more than 5,000 new jobs across plants in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.
The investment plan includes developing five new vehicles and a new four-cylinder engine by 2029. A significant part of the funding will revive the Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois to resume production of the Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Compass, set to create around 3,300 jobs.
The Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan will produce a large petrol-powered SUV alongside a range-extended electric vehicle that combines a battery with a petrol generator to extend driving range. Other new models include the next-generation Dodge Durango, to be made at the Detroit Assembly Complex, and a midsize truck built in Toledo, Ohio. The Kokomo, Indiana factory will start producing the GMET4 EVO engine in 2026.

Antonio Filosa, Stellantis CEO and North America COO, emphasised that the investment will drive growth, strengthen manufacturing capabilities, and create American jobs in key states.
“Accelerating growth in the U.S. has been a top priority since my first day. Success in America is not just good for Stellantis in the U.S.—it makes us stronger everywhere,” he said.
The plan marks a shift away from a heavy focus on electric vehicles in the U.S. market. Stellantis recently cancelled an electrified Gladiator and a battery-electric full-size pickup, though it continues to back the extended-range Ram 1500 REV.
This approach reflects a pragmatic response to market demands, tariff challenges, and operational realities, especially given tariff costs of roughly $1.7 billion expected this year on imports from Canada and Mexico.
In addition to new vehicle launches, Stellantis will refresh 19 existing products and update powertrains across its U.S. plants through 2029, balancing innovation with its core manufacturing strength.
