Auckland-based edtech company Kami has purchased UK firm Book Creator for an undisclosed amount.

The ed-tech platform anticipates expanding its reach to 70 million teachers and students, representing a growth of 20 million users.

“By joining forces with Book Creator, we’re looking to give our users powerful tools that make an impact on student outcomes and deliver real value for educators and school leaders alike,” Kami founder and chief executive Hengjie Wang said.

Kami, valued at over $300 million after last year’s investment from Boston Ventures Investment Partners, is already used by teachers and students in 180 countries, including 90% of classrooms in the United States.

“As the edtech market consolidates, particularly in the US, educators are seeking simpler, more versatile platforms.”

“Similarly to Kami, the majority of Book Creator’s revenue comes from the US and Canada,” Wang said.

“However, they have a very active international community, with 68% of their active teachers based outside of these regions, opening up new markets and significant expansion opportunity for Kami.”

Book Creator CEO Lainey Franks said the two companies share similar cultures.

“Our shared values with Kami around people, product, and creating magic in the classroom are what make this the perfect partnership, and together, we bring decades of experience, deep relationships, and a passion for making education awesome,” she said.

Book Creator was founded in 2011.

Similar to its new parent company Kami, Book Creator provides a combination of free and paid offerings and has achieved success in the US market.
