A New Zealand-developed collagen supplement will soon reach new international markets under a partnership between Tertiary Extracts Ōtautahi (TEO) and U.S. distributor MarketWell Nutrition.

The collaboration was announced this week by TEO, a Christchurch-based biotech company. Ovitage®, the product at the centre of the deal, is made using collagen extracted from ethically raised sheep.

Sheep-Based Collagen Innovation Uses Underutilised NZ Skins

TEO’s formulation uses sheepskins from New Zealand’s livestock sector, positioning the product as an alternative to more common collagen sources.

The patented process extracts Type I and III collagen, enhanced by the presence of cystine. “Our patented Ovitage® process isolates unique proteins rich in amino acids like cystine… and branched-chain amino acids, which help maintain lean body mass in ageing adults,” said Dr. Kelly.

North American Distribution Partnership Supports Global Growth

The agreement positions U.S.-based MarketWell Nutrition as a key distributor and sales driver for Ovitage®. According to both companies, the partnership will combine TEO’s scientific and supply-side expertise with MarketWell’s market access and commercial capabilities.

“We’re excited to partner with MarketWell Nutrition to accelerate our go-to-market strategy,” said Paul Sapsford, Founder and Co-CEO of TEO. “Together, we will create significant opportunities for brands seeking growth in North America.”

Doug Lynch, CEO of MarketWell Nutrition, added, “Ovitage® is a game-changer – sustainable, unique, and ready to make a global impact.”

The agreement’s main goal is to accelerate commercial rollout in North America and other countries.

Sustainable Collagen Extraction Method Adds Value to NZ Supply Chain

Ovitage® relies on collagen extracted from sheep raised in New Zealand’s grass-fed system. TEO positions this as a lower-impact alternative to marine or bovine collagen sources.

The company says its extraction method enhances the amino acid profile and improves digestibility. “Ovitage® delivers exceptional bioavailability and efficacy,” the company stated.
