Amazon Web Services (AWS) is preparing to launch a new AI agent marketplace on July 15 at its New York City Summit, with Anthropic confirmed as a key partner.
This platform aims to centralise access to AI agents—software programmes that autonomously perform tasks using AI models—addressing the current fragmentation where most providers operate in isolation.
The marketplace will allow startups to offer their AI agents directly to AWS customers, while enterprises can browse and deploy agents tailored to their needs from a single location. This model enables developers to monetise their creations independently, similar to existing software marketplaces.
Anthropic, backed by Amazon and recently surpassing $3 billion in annualised revenue, focuses heavily on AI agents and offers an API for developers to build custom agents. Its involvement in the AWS marketplace could expand its reach and attract more developers, potentially boosting innovation and revenue.
AWS joins other tech giants such as Google Cloud and Microsoft, which have launched similar AI agent marketplaces earlier this year, alongside enterprise software providers like Salesforce and ServiceNow. While these platforms promise to democratise AI agent access, their success in supporting smaller startups and meeting diverse enterprise needs remains to be seen.
